MALADORATION: THE UNHOLY INVENTION

Maladoration is the act of worshiping, admiring and adoring, a spirit, person, an entity or a thing when it is wrong to do so, especially when the worshiped is lower to the worshiper.

This act is as old as human existence; it started centuries ago when human race first began to question to question the true existence and identity of the omnipotent God. They were tired of worshiping an “imaginary GOD” but understood there was a supernatural power that controlled their actions so they made for themselves craving images, first out of clay and later gold and silvers. The act of worshiping graving images transcended to the act of worshiping statues of their ancestors who they believed possessed some extraordinary powers at death. They believed they have authority over them and has ability to protect them.

In Africa, most traditions give room for maladoration, their ancestral believes started from the worship of the river goddesses, mountains, stones, trees and other inanimate which they belief possess some superior spirits and extraordinary powers. They believe these things have some sort of omniscient control over them, they believe they provide them with certain needs after certain sacrifices and rituals.

For those that practice such maladoration, they only lack basic understanding of who they are and what they worship really are. Aside from river goddesses that god gave some powers, there is nothing inanimate that has life and spirit that can communicate to human and even if they do, none of them including the river goddesses deserves our worship because we are made superior to them by the creator and worshiping them is like God worshiping us.

 After Satan abused his pride and was sent packing from heaven, a quarter of the angels  in heaven supported him and came down with him, these angels became  demons working for Satan but for them to operate effectively, they need a flesh or other things on earth. That is why if you pick up a stone and begin to worship it, in no time one of these demons would enter the stone and begin to communicate with you whether in your dream or through other sources then you belief the stone is a god. That’s maladoration.

Those that believe in ancestors have evidences because these demons work on their believe system to convince them. Some of them claim they see their dead clans in another town after death, they really are sure of what they saw but those are just demons who now operate in the body of their dead clan who must have believed in the same thing too in other to convince them of their belief and give them reason to continue in maladoration.

When growing up, I witnessed a lot of maladoration and I keep wondering.

I watched some of the legendary Michael Jackson’s concerts where his fans die to see and touch him; their hearts breaks at his magnificent dance steps, Most of them fainted while some died in order to just touch him.

I thought that could only happen abroad until I witnessed the same thing with our home-grown artistes where they went to perform in other neighboring African countries. I wondered why a man would adore another man that much unknown to them that if they are given such platform they could do better. This is maladoration borne out of emotional daftness.

Maladoration is more detrimental than a lot of people think it is.

When you over-admire people, they indirectly become gods in your life; you’d emulate them even when they do the wrong things. You are indirectly indoctrinated to a superstar invented lifestyle that might be detrimental to your own life since you might not have enough funds to cope the way they do and might not be as lucky as they are even if you have the fund. You might end up taking up an immoral lifestyle, a certain ‘get rich or die tryin’ lifestyle. The ladies on their own would love to be the 1000^th wife of their hero and reject every other suitor that doesn’t meet their standard. They continue to live in the dead dream of having someone as perfect as their heroes.

Maladoration is an ungodly act, a gory offence against the creator who does not like to share his glory with anyone. This gory act is capable of causing loss of life and valuables. the moment you over-admire people that you really have no time to listen to what God has to say to you then you are already drifting away from him and become spiritually shallow and if you have not accepted Christ as your Lord and savior, such will be counted against you as idolatry.

Admiring people more than normal limits your creativity and make you undervalue your self-worth. Perhaps it was lack of understanding of your likeness to God that leads to maladoration thus; you need to place more value on yourself. Focus on your strength and discover the true God.
